Self-love requires one to love herself. It is as simple as that. Self-love can boost self-esteem and it will make you feel good about yourself. Even so, most women tend to sacrifice self-love and put family first, and they would settle with statements like this, ‘as long as my husband, kids, or parents are happy, I’m fine with it’. Sooner or later, you may feel tired of putting other people first, and realize that you deserve some love for yourself as well. Here are 5 ways to love yourself more.
1) Prioritize yourself
Self-love allows yourself to be the most important asset of your life. Love yourself first. Divide between the things that require your immediate attention and the things that can wait, like those dirty laundry and dishes. Do you remember what the flight attendants always tell you during safety briefings? ‘In case of an emergency, put the oxygen mask on yourself first, only then you attend to people around you’. You have to make sure that you are in a good condition before taking care of your loved ones.
2) Allocate some ‘me-time’
Self-love means you get to do things that you enjoy doing too (not just others’), so take some ‘me-time’ when you feel necessary. Take some time off from the clingy kids will recharge your motivation and refresh your mind. If you have passion for something, do not stop pursuing those. If you don’t recall having a hobby or bored of the same old hobby, try picking up new one. Trying out new things can help you to discover new perspective of yourself.
3) Accepting yourself for who you are
You can practice self-love by accepting yourself in whole. Acknowledge your past and present, as well as mistakes and successes. This may require you to forgive yourself for things that you have done in the past. Better yet, give yourself a pat in the back for all the milestones you have achieved in life. Show some self-love by recognizing that there is beauty in you. Everyone is created with different DNAs, features and characters. Learn how to appreciate your uniqueness. There is nothing wrong with having dark skin, frizzy hair, or if you are short, it does not matter! Wanting to look as perfect as the magazine’s cover girl may frustrate you both mentally and financially. So, chin up and start marching with prouder version of yourself.
5) Take extremely good care of yourself
Love yourself more by being more mindful of your mental, physical and spiritual health. Spend some time to practice self-love like eat more greens, exercise more regularly, and meditate often. Healthy food intake and regular work out will maximize your body’s performance, regularize your blood flow and balance out your hormones. Meditation is necessary for you to express gratitude and be closer to yourself.
