Self-reflection: 3 things Allah wants to tell us through Covid-19

Covid-19 | New Scientist

It has been a while since I last write something on this wall. It's April and the world has been down with Covid-19 since around February. Lots of cases and deaths all around the globe, and it's really overwhelming. Schools, offices and businesses have to be closed down temporarily and we have been home for more than 2 weeks now.

So, I would like to list down some reflection upon this situation in whole.

1) Firstly, I see this pandemic as a question of 'have you been thinking of Me lately?' from our Lord.

  • Well, this virus is sent by our Creator, perhaps to knock on our door a little bit harder than usual. Perhaps, His intention is for us to think about Him as He expected us to do. Sometimes, we're just too caught up with life, with work, with commitment, we tend not to allocate appropriate time for our Lord.
  • Let's take solat as an example. We do it daily, but we rarely spend time to think deeply on the meaning and every action in our prayers. We take it for granted, like yes, we pray, but do we really connect with Allah? Perhaps, we can use our quarantine time to reflect back on our promises made with Allah. In fact, Allah has 'melapangkan' our path during this quarantine to pray, zikir and beramal as much as we want to. Hopefully, by doing so, we can improve our relationship with Him, insyaAllah.
2) Secondly, I see this pandemic like ‘you have not been appreciating my gifts, so I'm gonna take them away for a while'.
  • You know like how parents tend to take away their kids' phones if they don't really behave at home? Same goes to this situation. I've reflected upon this after listening to Dato' Rizalman's sharing the other day. We have all these big and nice masjid and surau, but all of these 'Rumah Allah' have been closed and we can't even enter them to pray. Then, we have this beautiful Masjidil Haram (recently renovated), but high chance, Muslims can't perform hajj this year. Ramadhan is approaching, but we might not be able to go to masjid to perform solat terawih together.
  • Allah has showered us with so many blessings in life, and we seem to have been taking them for granted, to the fact that Allah has 'withdrawn' some of them. What could be more heartbreaking than this?. We can't even go out of the house as we wish, anymore! I hope we can see this as reminder that Allah wants us to be more grateful, to say 'Alhamdulillah' more often, to appreciate his rizq by sharing it with people who can't afford/ who need help.
3) Lastly and most importantly, I see this pandemic as a way of Allah reminding us that 'He is the most Powerful, above all'.
  • This tiny little unseen virus is so brutal, like it's so micro but the impact that it brings to our life is so gigantic. Think of how the Almighty can change our life just like that. I almost certainly sure that nobody could see this coming, never. With the latest development in science & technology, all the vaccines, the economic growth, amidst the wars, we would have never thought that the time of the mankind would be over in the 'hand' of a tiny virus. It's beyond imagination, and look at what Allah has in His plan.
  • I don't know how else we're going to fight this, but I hope Allah will help us in any way, to ease this burden/challenge. I don't know how far away we are from the 'end of this sadness', but I hope Allah will provide us with solution. And we have to believe and trust Allah, because He is the One who creates us, He creates the virus, and He will certainly provide us with a remedy.

These are just my personal opinion, and of course there are other things that we can discuss too. Well,  that’s  all for today. Thanks for reading, guys :)
